VELUX Skylight Planner App Useful for Both Consumers and Tradespeople

When it comes to home remodeling projects, it’s nice to get a sense of how the changes will look before you make them. It gives you peace of mind that you are spending your money wisely.

That’s why many home products manufacturers are developing mobile phone apps that allow consumers to virtually paint their walls or add a new sofa in cyberspace. A skylight manufacturer, VELUX, has a really cool app that allows you to see how skylights will look in your ceiling.

The VELUX Skylight Planner, which Wray Ward helped develop, has also become a handy tool for tradespeople like skylight installers, remodelers and architects. They can bring it to their clients’ homes and show them exactly how daylight from above could dramatically transform their home.

One VELUX 5-Star Skylight Specialist in Colorado has already found success with the app.

Sol Barak, a veteran skylight installer and owner of Skylight Magic in Littleton, Colorado, has been using the app since mid-May and attributes at least four sales to its use as of late June.

“I think the app is a great tool,” he said. “It makes things easier, more immediate for the customer.

“Psychologically, when a customer sees the skylight in their own ceiling it makes it their own; it gives them ownership, and the excitement they feel helps make the sale,” he added.

While it seems simple to installers who are used to envisioning skylights where there are none, the app elicits an immediate response from homeowners. He reports customers exclaiming, “Oh, wow!” and “Oh, that’s how my skylight is going to look!”

He always hopes for that personal connection “my skylight” when he shows the finished photo with skylight inserted into the customer’s ceiling.

“When someone starts owning it, that’s when I have a good chance of getting the work,” he said.

What a bright idea! The lesson for home products companies is: Don’t restrict your visions for a mobile app to only the trade or only consumers. You may find both audiences will use it with much success.
