I love you iTunes / I hate you iTunes

iTunes is taking over the world. And I’m fine with that. How can you really complain about easy access to gazillions of songs? But what I’m not fine with is the slow, painful death of the CD case. I know, I know – It sounds like Pappy’s been sniffing glue again. It’s counterintuitive to today’s mile-a-minute, less-is-more, I-want-it-now-and-I-mean-now world. CD’s take up space, they’re more expensive than 99¢ per song and that long sticker thing is always a pain to take off. But, to me, there’s really nothing like paging through the accompanying booklet filled with lyrics, photography, typography and artwork. Sometimes they’re hand written. Sometimes there are notes about the songs’ origins. Sometimes they include artwork from the band. Sometimes the liner notes read like a short story. And yes, sometimes they are lifeless, boring and worthless. But most of the time they’re little pieces of art. And unfortunately these pieces of creativity seem doomed forever.

Don’t get me wrong. I use iTunes. I love iTunes. I couldn’t live without iTunes. But really, I hate iTunes.
