I consider myself a bit of a celebrity hound; a pop culture enthusiast, if you will. So when I had the opportunity last week to get a backstage tour of the Kodak Theatre where the Oscars are held, I jumped at the chance.
Of course, the offer didn’t appear out of nowhere; it was actually a result of our agency’s masterful media negotiation on behalf of Sunbrella fabrics, who this year sponsored the Oscars Green Room backstage at the Kodak Theatre. A collaborative effort between my clients at Sunbrella, our public relations and media departments at Wray Ward and Architectural Digest magazine; the project allowed us to work with a high profile interior designer who used Sunbrella fabrics in his design scheme. Since the Green Room is a destination for celebrity presenters, producers and Oscar winners, we are certain that quite a few famous faces spent quality time with Sunbrella fabrics on Sunday night!
Designed by Roger Thomas, executive vice president of design for Wynn Properties, the Green Room featured design details reminiscent of Old Hollywood – metallic touches, luxurious chaise lounges, floor to ceiling mirrors and more. Thomas likened his design to the classic Hollywood beauty: an ashen blond with dark eyes. Everything from the draperies to the upholstery fabrics to the furniture frame colors illustrated Thomas’ muse. Even the warm peach lighting in the Green Room was intentional, emitted a soothing glow that complements all complexions – a design detail that undoubtedly made every celebrity who entered the Green Room very happy.
It was thrilling to see Sunbrella fabrics achieve a new level of brand recognition with this high profile, extraordinary project. Now if only I could find proof that George Clooney actually sat on a chair upholstered in Sunbrella fabric…
