2010 Marketing Prediction

My prediction for 2010….drum roll….this is the year for huge growth in mobile marketing! Okay, this is not really my prediction, it is my affirmation of the prediction that I have read in no less than five recent media trend articles. The most compelling information is from MediaPost that comments on statistics from the Morgan Stanley Mobile Internet Report. This report predicts that in five years more people will be connecting to the internet via mobile devices than via PCs. Wow that is huge growth!

Additional growth statistics from the Mobile Marketing Association include the following:

1. The U.S. Mobile Web Will Reach Nearly 100M Unique Users Per Month

2. Advertisers Will Invest Significantly in Site and Application Mobile Destinations

3.  New Entrants to the Mobile Market Will Emerge

4.  Location Plus Relevancy Plus Immediacy Will Allow for Growth in Ad Spending

5.  As Mobile Accelerates, It Will Be Called to Task on Privacy

Further site-based statistics provided by Quantcast and Omniture show that many mobile sites are growing faster than regular sites. Mobile site audiences are quickly approaching or in some cases exceeding the basic Web site audiences.

All of this research supports my prediction; this is the year for innovative advertisers to begin or to continue to develop relevant and impactful mobile campaigns. The campaigns of course, can only follow the development of building mobile sites and branded apps – which have to come first. (There is no “chicken and egg” conundrum here.)

So, in 2010, let the mobile marketing begin!
